NorCal Eats: Burger Me!

I can only assume you have all heard about a little show called Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network. If you haven’t, the show follows celebrity chef Guy Fieri around the U.S. as he visits local favorites. It has been years since I have seen the episode that included Burger Me! in Truckee, CA, but I always kept it in the back of my mind as a place I wanted to try during a visit to the mountains. During a most recent trip, I finally made it happen…here is what we ordered:

Burgers

It was such a hard decision to pick two burgers for my husband and I to split. I pretty much wanted to try everything from the Gyro Burger (lamb patty, feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, mixed greens, tomato, and onion), to the Train Wreck (hamburger patty, onion ring, chili, cheddar cheese, and a fried egg), and why not throw in a BBQ Bison Burger (bison patty, bacon, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, and BBQ sauce) while we’re at it. However I knew my eyes were being bigger than my stomach, so, we narrowed it down to the Elk Burger, and the Veggie Burger.

Many of you have probably walked through the freezer aisle, at your local grocery store, and seen the plethora of Amy’s Kitchen frozen products (if you haven’t, go look!) I was first introduced to Amy’s products back in 2013 when I decided I was going to try and follow a vegetarian (and later vegan) diet. I am not afraid to admit I used to rely heavily on convenience foods and being able to find a company that not only offered veggie friendly items, but truly cared about the ingredients they used, made switching up my diet so much easier. When it was announced that Amy’s was in the process of opening up an eatery, in Rohnert Park, CA, that promoted the same values, and offered the same amazing food as their packaged products, I was beyond excited. In the summer of 2015, dreams became reality; Amy’s Drive Thru was open for business!

NorCal Eats: The Butcher’s Son (TBT)

In honor of throwback Thursday (TBT), I wanted to share a post I wrote for my old blog, last year.

I feel a small disclaimer is necessary before you read on. I visited The Butcher’s Son, and composed this post, when I was following a vegan diet. I no longer label myself a “vegan”, (I consume animal products, currently) But I still really enjoying eating plant-based and finding plant-based versions of non-vegan items.

I hope you enjoy this blast from the past!

If you are within driving distance of Berkeley, CA, do yourself a favor and check out The Butcher’s Son.

It took my husband and I almost a year after hearing about this place to actually take the time to go eat there. Wow, what took us so long?!
